According to internet hype and opinion, the latest MILCs are absolutely squeezing Canikon with their latest slim, sexy and futuristic cameras. Of course, according to that even higher authority named Cosmic Reality, solely trusting opinions and statements on the internet could well lead to major regret. MILCs may be the future of cameras, but are their current forms truly uncompromisingly superior with little shortcomings? As we like to say in a creative visual industry, “a picture says a thousand words”.
The Hasselblad X1D is not only visibly smaller than Nikon’s current resolution and dynamic-range champion D810, it is also a considerable 255g lighter. That’s a lot of heft and weight! Bear in mind the Hasselblad has a physically larger sensor, more resolution at 50MB+, obviously superior dynamic range and better ISO performance! Amazingly, there really are several things that Flickr still does better than 500px even in 2016. Nevermind what the un-thinking, un-discerning masses buoyed by popular fad think. :p

2016 November update: Added observations for DXO Optics Pro 11
A RAW file contain so much more image data than a JPEG file. Most serious enthusiasts and professional photographers shoot in RAW to extract the most out of a photographic image during post-processing. RAW conversion is the very first step in the work-flow with raw files, so it should be obvious how important this initial process is. Get a flawed result from this initial step at the start and the implications will affect all subsequent post-processing efforts. Continue reading “Comparison Of RAW Converters For Nikon”
