2017 Week 46: Melbourne Queen Victoria Market

Melbourne 2017: Queen Victoria Market Grocer StoresMelbourne 2017: Queen Victoria Market – A Moment In The Market

The fun fact is that the Queen Victoria Market ranks as one of our top destinations in Melbourne. First, it’s about shopping, and that makes the missus happy. Second, it’s physically un-demanding and easily accessible in Melbourne’s inner city, so that makes the missus happy too. Third, happy missus means my life becomes easier and generates even more happiness. 😛

All right, it is actually a genuinely interesting place. That’s important too. Continue reading

2017 Week 44: Snippets From NGV and NGVI

There are two NGV museums. The much larger National Gallery of Victoria International (NGVI) and the smaller National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Both are art museums, with the NGV more focused on local art while the NGVI has a Victorian-era collection and hosts more foreign art exhibitions. Both museums are a tram stop away from each other. Both are worth dropping by if you enjoy art. But even if I put them together, I don’t consider them to be as interesting as Melbourne’s rival Sydney’s Gallery of New South Wales. Whoops. Honest travel opinion though. 😛 Continue reading

To my surprise, one of the places that was most interesting to me in my visit to Melbourne is a library. The State Library of Victoria (abbreviated SLV) boosts large, impressive styled architecture, large reading rooms, exhibitions, and some of the best Victorian-era paintings that can be found in Melbourne. Visitors and tourists are welcome, as long as you keep quiet of course. Continue reading

2017 Week 40: Scenes From Melbourne’s City Centre

Melbourne 2017: Little Alley In The Inner CityMelbourne 2017: An Alley In The Inner City

I finally got to visit what the Economist magazine ranks as “The most livable city” for multiple years consecutively. After spending seven days here I came to the unbiased conclusion that one magazine’s opinion does not qualify as any form of Cosmic Truth. 😛 Melbourne is certainly a fine place, but “livability” is definitely subjective to different people. So all you folks from Sydney shouldn’t be too miffed that your rival city kept topping the chart ahead of yours every year in the same chart. I just might prefer Sydney over Melbourne. 😉 Continue reading
